Encore Players Community Theatre of Trumansburg is pleased to present “The Last Viking: How Roald Amundsen Took the South Pole.” This is the second in a series of one-act plays featuring the exciting true stories of Antarctic explorers.

Trumansburg native and Antarctic guide and historian, Louise Adie, brings to life the adventurers and heroes of the early 20th century through her true stories of these great explorers. With costumes, props, and photos, Ms. Adie paints a picture of the daunting task of covering hundreds of miles in the blasting cold Antarctic desert using only skis, dogs, sleds and men.

The comfortably renovated Silver Queen Barn provides a unique performance venue for the telling of this remarkable and compelling story. “The Last Viking” describes the story of Norwegian Roald Amundsen’s successful bid for being the first person to visit the South Pole.

Discover for yourself why Amundsen’s plan succeeded where others had failed. Follow his progress from his youth as a medical school student through two decades of meticulous preparation as he strove to become the first person to make it to the last unexplored frontier on earth in 1911.
